He has consulted for a variety of organizations including City of Hope, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Los Angeles County Dept. of Health Services, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept., and Pacificare.
Elio's keratoconus began to surface in his late thirties when his vision, which had always been better than 20-20, suddenly began to deteriorate in one eye. Like many KC patients, his first indication of a problem was when he realized that he saw multiple moons at night with his KC eye. Over time, both eyes developed moderate KC. As a patient at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute, Elio has been fitted with and currently wears Rose-K lenses -- rigid gas permeable contacts specially made for keratoconic corneas.
